A new fair trade mark
Launch of craft Fair Trade mark - 19th January 2004
IFAT - the International Fair Trade Association has launched a Fair Trade
Mark for craft producers. Organisations fulfilling the Fair trade criteria will be awarded the IFAT mark. Agricultural producers already have their own mark but up
to now art and craft goods have generally been authenticated by producers and
buyers belonging to IFAT or by buyers belonging to BAFTS (British Association
of Fair Trade Shops).
The launch took place on 19th January 2004 during the World Social Forum
in Mumbai. The programme started with a traditional Indian prayer
dance and there were speeches from prominent local figures.
The launch signaled the start of a Global Journey for the Fair Trade Organisation's (FTO) Mark - as it passed from IFAT member to IFAT member and continued around the world.
IFAT is proud to present its new FTO Mark. It is available to all IFAT registered Fair Trade Organisations. The development of the FTO Mark is in response to growth in global Fair Trade and the need for a mark that formally identifies Fair Trade Organisations. The IFAT FTO Mark is not a product mark.
