Fairtrade Fortnight Producer Visit

Boonjira visits Mayor in Brighton
Boonjira and the Mayor, Carol Theobald,
meet at Brighton and Hove City Council

Boonjira is a Fairtrade Organic Rice Producer from Thailand and general manager of Green Net who supply rice and fruit to Infinity Foods. She visited Brighton on Monday the 3rd March as part of a national tour. First at Cardinal Newman School, she gave an assembly then spoke with the dedicated Fairtrade group of 12 year olds. Christine Mathews who teaches at the school hosted the event.

Boonjira then went down to BBC Southern Counties and was interviewed on Gordon Astley's mid morning show. Finally she made an official visit to Brighton Council and spoke with the Mayor, Carol Theobald.

Winner - "Ren Wraps" - Mexican veggie Burrito mix

Sensational smoothies, banana splits, fried rice, and wraps were on the menu at four city schools on March 29th.

Talented young chefs from Brighton & Hove schools have shown a flair for fantastic Fairtrade food as winners of a recent recipe competition, sponsored by Brighton & Hove City Council and the Co-op.

The youngsters, from the 4 winning schools - St Mary's C. Primary, St Andrew's CE Primary, Middle Street Primary and Longhill High, were joined by local chef Jethro Carr who helped turn the youngsters' recipes into tasty school lunches.


Thumbs up for the FairTrade recipes!

The competition was organised to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight 2007. Pupils were invited to create a nutritionally balanced recipe using at least 2 or 3 Fairtrade ingredients.

All the short listed entries will feature in a special fair-trade Cook Book. The winners were:

Middle St: Kai Scott-Bridge (winner)
Runners up: Hannah Dunsmore, Harrie Wells, Sivan Schechner, Tabby Titcombe, Molly Simmons.

St Andrew's: Eleanor Hawley (winner)
Runners up: Benjamin James, Rosie Benge.

St Mary's: Jude Ota (winner)
Runner up: Simon Rendal.

Longhill: Leah Crawford, Isabel Todd (winners)Runners up: Hannah Quinn, Erin Brown, Enrico Le Maistre, Oren Jury, Daniel Laughton.
